Update for Saturday, Sunday, Monday Morning

After Kierra was born and with us in our room for a few hours, she wasn't eating, and then we found her to be getting a little cold. So they ran a blood sugar test and found her to be pretty low, it was at 27. So they started an IV, which they had to poke her little arms several times before they could find a vein big enough to get the IV in. Her blood sugar quickly recovered with the liquid sugar they were giving her. She also had her blood oxygen level dip a few times, so the nurse put on an oxygen mask to help her get more oxygen, but as soon as she got the tubes placed onto Kierra her oxygen levels increased and have pretty much stayed higher since.
They started to wean her off the IV as she began to eat more, and Sunday night she spend off the IV and off the warmer. They have continued to test her blood sugar before every feeding, they have been doing both a bed side glucose test as well as sending blood to the lab, because the two tests have shown a decent discrepancy. The lab test is always 8-15 points lower than the bed side test.
Monday morning, the pediatrician came in and after some more blood tests have come back there is a little concern that she might have some sort of infection. So they took more blood to run more tests to see if she has an infection, but those results don't come back for 24 hours. Her jaundice tests have risen a little as well, so they are putting her under the lights today. Her glucose is slightly lower than they would like it, so they are re-starting the IV with a little bit of glucose which helps her little body not have to work so hard in making the sugars. They are also starting an antibiotic which means she will have to be here at least 48 hours more. Since she is a month early everything is a little harder, and her systems aren't working optimally yet, but she is a strong little baby and I'm sure will soon gain the strength she needs.
Julie will be boarding at the hospital while Kierra is here so we can be around to feed her and be with her. We love our little girl and look forward to taking her home on Wednesday.
